Welcome back from the long holiday weekend, everyone! Even though we have been absent from the track lately, Team INS Racing has been very busy with car appearances. We were in Monona, Iowa, on June 16th for a customer appreciation evening at the Northeast Iowa Telephone Company. We greeted people from 4-7 pm and enjoyed a beautiful evening.
The tow to Northeast Iowa is a little difficult, mainly because there is no easy way to get there. Once you turn off Highway 20 and head north, there is nothing smooth about the lovely Iowa secondary roads. As you get closer, the roads are much better, but are difficult to navigate because of the steep grades. It is beautiful country, but my tow vehicle certainly got a work out that evening.
The following Thursday on June 23rd, the INS Dragster made a trip to Wellman, Iowa. We were at the Wellman Telephone Company from 4:30-7:00 pm. The unusual thing for this appearance was that I did not attend. Two of my friends, Joe Notch and Jim Pearson, were kind enough to take the car for me as I was out of town. They both had a good time, great food and spoke to a lot of people.
I had previously purchased baseball tickets to see the Phillies play in St. Louis. The great thing about the night was that my eight year old grandson, TJ, was able to attend. I think I was sixteen before I attended my first major league game! TJ was upset when the Phillies lost, but he sure had a great time. Thanks, Joe and Jim, for your help.
The INS Dragster made a trip to the Cooperative Telephone Company in Victor, Iowa, on June 25th. As we were setting up at the car show, it started to rain so we had to push the car back into the trailer. However, that didn’t stop me from talking to car fans until noon. By the time I arrived home in the early afternoon, it was raining heavier and it continued almost all afternoon.
The next day we headed to Kamrar, Iowa. This small community is located approximately 35-45 miles north of Ames and gets service from the Stanhope Cooperative Telephone Company. While the towing distance was the same as Monona, it is easier since I can travel on Highway 30 and Interstate 35. We set up next to the ball diamond where the annual car show was taking place. The weather cooperated with lots of sunshine and a nice breeze. They had roughly 125 cars registered for the show and several motorcycles, golf carts and of course the INS Dragster set up around the perimeter of the diamond. We were kept very busy all afternoon as people came by to look and ask questions.
I would like to say a huge “Thank You” to the INS area representatives, Joe Craig, Tim Earp and Kent Atha for their help with loading and unloading the car and staying to help answer questions. I would also like to thank all the individual hosting telephone companies for inviting Team INS Racing to be a part of their day. I appreciate their hospitality, physical help and accommodating my “parking needs.”
Stay tuned!!
