Johnson County Fair

We arrived around 9 a.m. at the Johnson County fair grounds (Iowa City) ready to spend a couple days at the fair. We were set up at the South Slope Communications information booth from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and let me just say this: “It was hot”. Fortunately for us we had the car setting close to a small tree which did provide us with a small amount of shade. We made the best of the conditions, talked with a lot of people, and survived day one. We loaded the car that evening and headed for home knowing we needed to return on Wednesday (Fortunately we were able to leave the car and trailer in the parking lot). This time we were looking at a shorter day, but just as hot. All in all, during the two days we covered the age groups as Tuesday was kids day at the fair and Wednesday was senior citizens day. Wednesday evening was sort of a special treat for me as two of my grandkids paid a visit. TJ (Tyler Jacob) age 7 and Shelby Ray age 5 stopped by to say high to Grandpa. They live close by in North Liberty and I see them regularly but it is always special to see them. They were definitely more interested in climbing on all the large farm equipment on display as to look at a race car that they can not climb on. We took a few picture together and they were ready to go home. Around 6 p.m. we loaded the car, hooked up the trailer and headed for home. Next stop “Fort Dodge”
