July Racing - Part 1

For those of you that might possibly read my articles I want to send out a big “thank you”. Keeping you informed as to what has been happening at Team INS for the most part has been a little difficult to say the least. Well race fans we finally, yep I said it, made a trip to the race track this past weekend. Great weekend? No. Bad weekend? No! Typical Iowa 2010 weather weekend.

We pulled out Saturday at 6 a.m. arriving around 7:45 a.m. First order of business was to check the under side of my tow vehicle, as several of our readers know I been having problems. I am happy to report that it appears that it is finally fixed. It takes awhile to get back in the “groove” as I say. Getting the car unloaded, generator going, weather station set up, lap top up, air and electrical working, fuel up, check water level, charge batteries, install nose on car, and air up tires, are just a few items to prepare for the race day. Tech in, warm up the car are also items that must be done prior to making your first run. We headed for the staging lanes around 10 am to make our first run in the new INS dragster.

We ran a 7.94 at 170.79 mph and the car was a dream to drive. We made a couple more time runs and were ready for the first round of eliminations. We were in the water box around 1:50, dialed a 7.89 ran a 7.86 and of course we lost. You might be thinking right now that pretty much sounds like a broken record, well as much as I hate to say it “you’re right”!! Conclusion?? I spent $30 and bought back. What that mean is I get to try one more time to stay alive, but get no points for any rounds won there after. I just need to be able to buy back every round, hence I would either finally win or be out of money. I normally do not buy back, but due to this being a new car and needing the information I decided to spend the $30 and try again. This time the INS dragster ran a 7.899 on a 7.85 dial and was lucky enough to win as the opponent ran faster than his declared time.

The other tuning help is that I am closing in on the delay box setting which hopefully leads to better lights. The delay setting is the amount of time that the car takes to move & activate the lights on the starting line from the time you let go of the button. (react to the first yellow on your side of the tree) We started the day with a 1.115 delay time, and are down to a 1.100. You only take out a minimal amount .005 each time until you get close. Round two was at 2:55 pm where we dialed a 7.88 ran a 7.87, and lost again. Now its time to load up and wait until tomorrow
