Today we are paying a visit to the city of Keosauqua, IA. It is located in the farthest most point of southern Iowa, within 8 miles of the Missouri border. When the request came for an appearance I had no idea where it was located, let alone (like everyone else) how to spell it. We were to arrive around 9 am so it was an early Sunday morning and a short Saturday evening. We left town around 6 am and arrived at our destination around 9.40. It actually was a very easy drive, fairly good roads, four lane most of the way. We easily found our parking spot and got ready to unload. It certainly looked as though it was going to rain, but other than being somewhat cool, the moisture stayed away for the day.
We had a great time, talked to a whole bunch of people, and learned a lot about Keosauqua, IA and its rich history. Kevin Hranicka, general manager of VBTC, was a gracious host and explained much of the town’s rich history to me and was kind enough to keep me with warm coffee all day. Thanks Kevin (Yes, it was cool).
Tim Earp, INS rep, was kind enough to enter us in the car show which was going on and as luck would have it, won first place in the compact division. Now this is where I say, “Tim, have you not looked closely at the INS dragster!!” Compact huh!! Even the judges were a little confused when they came around. Imagine that. All in all it was a fun day, except 70 degrees instead of 40 degrees would have been nice. Kevin explained that last year it was in the low 80’s, actually hot. They had 12,000 people attend, 70 to 80 vendors, and 75 cars entered in the car show. Sounds like a lot of people. Warm weather does make a difference. Hopefully the INS dragster can return to the festival again under warmer conditions.
