What a beautiful morning! Nice and cool with a few clouds and a race track full of cars. A lot of rigs had pulled in throughout the evening and early morning. It looked like there would be a lot of fast cars. Today was the “Quick Sixteen” which is a special race once a month. We are currently in second place and would like to stay there or possibly move up one notch.
Our first time run resulted in a 7.806 which was about the same as yesterday. Our second run resulted in a 7.813. I knew the INS dragster was in trouble. The track always displays the elapsed time that represents the bump spot or number you have to run to qualify. It already displayed 7.70 E.T. and the third qualifying round was yet to be. We made one more attempt, but to my dismay we ran another 7.809 and fell .10 short of qualifying. I felt bad at first and then realized that the current points leaders 1 thru 4 had not made the field. What was frustrating is that had I qualified, I would currently be leading. Oh well, we still get to race in Super Pro and the car has been very consistent today. To say the least, the “Quick Sixteen” was quick. WOW!!! Three cars were running in the 6.90’s, a couple in the 7.0’s and the bump spot at 7.70. That’s “Quick”.
The first round begins at 1:35 pm with approximately 34 Super Pro cars in the staging lanes. We are fairly confident we can go a few rounds if the driver does his job. We chose to dial a 7.80 for the first round. We got off the starting line first, tapped the break before the finish line (as I was leading and worried about being too fast), took the stripe and, just as I expected, broke out. We ran a 7.778 on a 7.80 dial even after tapping the brakes. Upon receiving my time slip, just to ad insult to injury as they say, I wasted my best reaction time of the weekend, a .005. Well, it’s been a long trying weekend, but we learn something new every time out. We quickly loaded and decided to relax. We watched a couple rounds of racing and had a little social time with other competitors before heading home.
