The weekend started out being very wet. On Saturday morning we headed for the track and drove in rain most of the way to Earlville, IA. Upon arriving it appeared the rain might stay away but much to our dismay, it seemed to be a persistent mist for a couple hours. We loaded and unloaded twice, never sure of what to do. Finally around 9:00 a.m. the nagging mist went away and the race was on. I mean the race to get the car unloaded and ready for qualifying.

You see, every time they have delays they try to speed up the process like they are trying to play catch up. So, to speed up the process we received two rounds of qualifying as opposed to the normal three rounds. The car ran well both rounds with no problems, ending up with a 7.83 E.T. in the right lane and a 7.81 E.T. in the left lane. We were ready to race.
We dialed 7.83 for the first round, caught the opposition early, hit the brakes and ran a 7.89. We proceeded to win the first round (which is always good) and headed to the second round. Second round was very much a surprise as we hadn’t qualified any faster than 7.81 in our two qualifying runs. We stayed with the 7.81 dial, caught the opponent by the 1000′ mark, and hit the brakes hard before crossing the finish line but still running a 7.77. Yep… way too fast. A 7.77 on a 7.81 dial is not good. So we race again tomorrow.
